General

Install a font locally

  • Copy the font files into ~/.fonts/<example-font>
  • Rebuild the font cache: fc-cache -f -v

  • Arch Linux: Install the ttf-hack package
  • Debian: Install the fonts-hack-ttf package
  • Manual:

Download the latest Hack version (e.g. Hack-vX.00X-ttf.zip) and unzip to /tmp/hack.

Copy the font and the downloaded configuration

cp /tmp/hack/ /usr/share/fonts/
curl https://raw.githubusercontent.com/source-foundry/Hack/master/config/fontconfig/45-Hack.conf -o /tmp/45-Hack.conf
cp /tmp/45-Hack.conf /etc/fonts/conf.d/

Rebuild the cache and confirm installation

fc-cache -f -v
fc-list | grep "Hack"

Microsoft fonts

On Debian systems:

apt-get install msttcorefonts
