Nmap (Network Mapper) is a security scanner originally written by Gordon Lyon used to discover hosts and services on a computer network, thus creating a "map" of the network. To accomplish its goal, Nmap sends specially crafted packets to the target host and then analyzes the responses. (Wikipedia)

Installation

Ubuntu
apt-get install nmap

Usage

Scan a IP or domain (use -v option for detailed information)

nmap 192.168.0.20
nmap example.org

Scan multiple hosts or a subnet

nmap 192.168.0.20 192.168.0.21
nmap 192.168.0.*
