Wicd, which stands for Wireless Interface Connection Daemon, is an open source software utility to manage both wireless and wired networks for Linux. The project started in late 2006 with the creation of Connection Manager, which eventually became Wicd. Wicd aims to provide a simple interface to connect to networks with a wide variety of settings. Installation

Arch Linux

pacman -S wicd

Debian

apt-get install wicd
Remove NetworkManager

You maybe need to remove the NetworkManager (details see: Ubuntu Users Wicd (German))

apt-get remove --purge network-manager network-manager-gnome

Setup

Arch Linux

Install a GUI, for GTK

pacman -S wicd-gtk

Enable the service: wicd.service
